Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park

This was an awesome hike (Saturday, June 11th 2016), most of it is paved, there is some gravel roads depending on where you want to hike … we mostly stayed on the paved road with small section on the gravel.  As this area is not really fenced in, you would still need to be aware of bears – always a good idea to bring bear spray.

There are many trails here, so you can stick to one or mix and match – for your convenience, here is the link …

It’s a great family area, lots of bathrooms, cows nearby if you want to get your picture with them, not that they would come to the fence.

The six of us started out just before 11am, we hiked down did a loop and was going to loop to the other side but got stopped by ‘cattle at large’ – we couldn’t cross the fence so had to turn back.  That stretch on the right is where we would have gone up and done the loop.

To get there (if you are from Calgary), drive north on Crowchild Trail right out of the city.  Continue on this road … you will come to a road where you need to turn left (Glenbow Road), there are blue signs indicating where the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park turn off is so that’s easy to spot.  You will travel on gravel road or a few kms where you will come to parking lot, granted you will see a lot of cars, it’s a popular place.

Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on leashes … kids also are allowed, those should be kept on leashes as well haha – I am joking, I don’t want to be yelled at by the parents.

The weather tho was insane.  It started out very nice, hot sunny day.  We could see a cloud of doom coming towards us, we knew we would get wet but no one thought snow.  Geez, it got windy and cold … it started snowing or lightly hailing (couldn’t tell), someone commented my back pack was all white.  We all got wet.  Junior (the dog) got cold and started shivering and had to be carried.  Then, about 20 or so mins, the rain/snow/hail stopped, the sun came out and it was hot again.  Junior was happy, no longer shivering and we dried off.

Calgary weather is crazy!
