Well, here we are, Saturday morning, enjoying some breakfast and visiting. The drive out was pretty much the same. We left Calgary on Friday around 3pm and made it to CK’s parents house at around 2:45am (Vancouver time). The drive out was nice, I actually drove more than 3 hours, I made it to Sicamous, where CK took over the driving.
After about 4.5 hours of sleep, we got up to make the trek to the Island – we had the three ferry trips to make. This time, tho, we were heading out Friday morning so we were hoping that would make a difference – and boy, did it! We made the first (big) ferry at 10:05am and arrived at Vancouver Island before noon…we had time to do a few things. We first hit The Bay for shoes and a belt. Later, CK showed me where the goats are – on the roof. In Combs, there is a market that has a grass roof … with goats – real, live, goats. Seriously, I can’t make this stuff this up. There was one real big goat by the edge … fascinating. After shopping for a few supplies, we headed off to make it to the second ferry, which we did, with no problems. It was at the third ferry that we had to wait a bit, however, we had some food at the point and enjoyed the weather waiting for the ferry. We made it to the Island at around 5pm.
When we arrived, no one was home … we figured they had gone swimming, so we gathered all our stuff and headed over to the beach. The family wasn’t there, but there were other who were. We visited a bit then went swimming, and me without my wetsuit. The water was a bit cool, but not bad once we got in. There was a head a bit further out, which I found out was ‘Oscar’, a resident sea-lion. I thought I would say ‘hello’ and started to swim out to him … KIDDING, I am not that stupid, however, I was a little nervous and kept watching to see he wouldn’t get too close. Sea Lions are cute and friendly, but they can be a bit aggressive.
After we got back to the house, everyone was back including the cousins Peter and his wife Suzanne. We had dinner and visited … I got really tired at around 9pm and decided to head off to sleep.
It is now the next morning and we are deciding what to do today.
