Well … I just completed my very first Triathlon. It took me 1:21:03 to complete, coming in overall 51 out of 57 and in the women’s group 36 out of 42. Not a great time, however, this was my first one EVER, so I thought this was pretty good.
Actually, I had two goals … 1. to finish and 2. not to be last – I accomplished both. 🙂
My stats out of 57
Swim (350m) – 13:20 … 35th
Bike (10k) – 45:47 … 42nd (this included two transitions at approx 10min total)
Run (2.5k) – 21:58 … 53rd
I learned a couple of things … it is very different swimming in a lake instead of a pool. I seriously almost drowned as I couldn’t get any air from all the splashing and waves from the other athletes. I had to hang back a bit while most passed me before I could get swimming. The other thing I learned is when you come out of the lake; you are very disoriented as you are going from being vertical to horizontal. I stumbled back to the transition area to get ready for the bike portion and couldn’t figure out why I was feeling so ‘drunk’, it wasn’t until after, when speaking to a fellow athlete, that I found out why.
The link for the stats is located on the blogroll to your left. There are also a couple of pictures of me crossing the finish line; they are located on the photos to your left. It looks like they load really big, but give it a few seconds, they go down to normal size.
My next one is scheduled for August 8th at Lake Chaparral. This one is almost double … 750m Swim, 15.5k Bike and a 4.5k Run. As the race is fast approaching, I am deep into training and hoping to complete this one in under two hours. My fingers are crossed!
