Day 9: shopping in Paris

Today was our shopping day and Stacy & I were headed to Forum des Halles, a shopping mall that is bigger than anything I have ever seen. First however, was the stop at the Christian Loubouton shoe store for Stacy. We got very good directions and when we found it; I think I saw a tear in Stacy’s eye. When we entered, I saw a look on her that I could only be described as a religious experience. My thought was ‘dude, they are shoes’.

After the large purchase on her end, we headed to the Forum des Halles…it is underground starting at the metro level and working up about 4 levels to the ground…it is huge. After shopping for about 1/2 hour, I realized that Stacy and I are very different shoppers, she is more the ‘stop in every store ‘ slow shopper…I am the ‘get in get out’ shopper, so we thought it best to split up and both do our own shopping at our own speeds.

I spent a little time walking around and checking out a few stores. I found a shoe store with shoes that I really did like. Well, they did take Travellers Cheques, however, they wouldn’t give me any change back…ya – didn’t like that idea, so I left. I also hit an HSBC bank and they don’t cash them either. My only option is the cheque cashing kiosks; however, they charge a fee…not too keen on that. We are leaving Paris tomorrow and I am hoping I have more luck in Venice.

Once I had enough, I headed back to the hotel. Stacy gave me directions on how to get to the train station and after walking around a little bit, I had no problems finding the metro and finding my way back. I waited for Stacy wondering how her day of shopping went…all was answered when she came back with bags and bags so stuff. If shopping was an Olympic event…she would get the gold.

After we decided to take a last walk around the neighborhood and had a delightful meal at a local restaurant…Stacy had Quiche and I had Duck Leg with Garlic Roasted Potatoes – yummy.

We are back at the hotel and I am watching Stacy trying to pack up her suitcase…the three inches on the suitcase had to be unzipped. I don’t envy her wheeling that sucker around šŸ™‚ .

Tomorrow we are off to Venice and as we have an evening train ride, there probably won’t be a blog (unless the train has WiFi) so stay tuned the following night.
