Day 18: but alas…all good things must come to an end

This day has finally come, our last day. We knew this day would come, although we would not believe it. Today was going to be a quiet day, after running around and being so busy with tours and shopping, we thought that we would take it easy (right in the nick of time too, my feet went on strike). We caught the hop-on hop-off bus at St. Peter’s and rode it to Villa Borghese, the oldest park in Rome. It holds different areas of greenery done in various styles, including an Italianate garden and ample areas landscaped in the English fashion, plus buildings, small-scale structures, fountains and artificial lakes. It was very peaceful, we had to take a little time to sit and enjoy the view.

After making our way back to the bus, we headed to Piazza Barberini to the the Triton Fountain, the work of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. What was quite entertaining was a man on the corner that had (what it looked like) was cell phones fastened to his head with an elastic with a feather coming out. He was dancing around and making faces to the people on the bus, it was quite funny.

From there, we stopped at Circus Maximus, possibly the oldest Roman circus used for horse rases, with races dating from the 4th century BC. After sitting a spell (again) and taking in the view (you get a great view of Nero’s castle, or at least what is left of it), we walked to the Mouth of Truth. The legend holds that if you tell a lie while your hand is inside the mouth, the hand gets mangled. I know this is just fantasy, but there was no way I was going to test it out.

We caught the bus again and headed back to our starting point…we walked around a little bit more, did our last bit of shopping and headed back to start our packing. Stacy, always in the mood to shop, was reaching her limit…THANK GOODNESS – I ‘shopped til I dropped’ about five days ago.

Once back, we got our packing done and had one last meal in Rome. We went to our favorite spot, a delightful little Italian Ristorante a few minutes walk from our B&B. The food was great, the servi c e – entertaining,

Both Stacy and I would like to say thanks to everyone who have been reading our blog…we hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as we have enjoyed typing it.
